Every gun at a glance
“Sustained” is the damage per second over a whole magazine including the reload, which is what actually matters in a long fight. “Hits” is how many zombies a single round can pass through.
| Weapon | Price | Level | Damage | Rate | Mag | Hits | Sustained DPS |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pistol | Free | – | 22 | 5/s | 12 | 1 | 75 |
| Magnum | $700 | 2 | 125 | 2.5/s | 6 | 5 | 203 |
| SMG | $450 | – | 16 | 12/s | 32 | 1 | 126 |
| Assault rifle | $900 | 1 | 30 | 9/s | 30 | 2 | 175 |
| Shotgun | $800 | – | 17 ×8 | 1.4/s | 6 | 1 | 122 |
| Auto shotgun | $1800 | 4 | 15 ×7 | 4/s | 12 | 1 | 217 |
| Machine gun | $2600 | 6 | 34 | 13/s | 100 | 3 | 301 |
Plus the bat ($150): a melee swing that hits up to five zombies around you and knocks them back. It never needs reloading.
The ranking
S: Machine gun
A hundred-round belt, high damage, rounds that pass through three zombies. It holds a doorway on its own. Long reload: have a teammate cover you.
A: Magnum, assault rifle, auto shotgun
The magnum is a hand cannon: every round drops a walker outright, punches through a line of five and staggers what it hits, cancelling a big zombie’s blow. Slow, so aim. The assault rifle is the all-rounder with forgiving accuracy and range. The auto shotgun shreds anything at the door.
B: Shotgun, SMG
The shotgun is devastating up close and useless at range. The SMG is cheap, fast and accurate enough: the best first buy.
C: Pistol
It never runs out of ammo, which is exactly why you keep it: when everything else is empty, the pistol still works.
What to buy first
- SMG after wave 1 or 2.
- Armour before the first boss (wave 5).
- Save for the assault rifle or the magnum as soon as your level unlocks it.
- A shotgun for whoever holds the door.
- Late game: the machine gun, and keep everyone’s ammo topped up.
Guns unlock as your level goes up; your level is saved on your device, or on every device if you sign in with OMEN.

Questions
What is the best gun in The Last Flare?
The machine gun has the highest sustained damage and passes through three zombies per round, but it unlocks late and costs $2,600. The magnum and the assault rifle are the best mid-game picks.
Does the pistol ever run out of ammo?
No. The pistol has infinite reserve ammo, so you are never defenceless; you still have to reload each magazine.
How do I unlock more weapons?
Play games to earn XP. Each level unlocks stronger guns in the shop between waves.
